About Me
I am Michael Mulvihill, an Irish writer from Dublin whose work crosses horror, dystopian fiction, satire, psychology and poetry. My novels include Utopianoids, Rot Land, Diabolis of Dublin and Siberian Hellhole, while my nonfiction book Hypnosaga explores the strange and often controversial history of hypnotism. I am also the author of the poetry collection The Real Alien.
My fiction examines damaged societies, psychological captivity, political power, addiction, isolation and the fragile boundary between sanity and nightmare. Although my work frequently enters dark territory, it also contains absurd humour, philosophical reflection and sympathy for people struggling to survive systems that have ceased to serve them.
My short fiction and poetry have appeared in publications including Black Petals, Yellow Mama, Asian Signature, Ashvamegh Magazine and Tuck Magazine. Siberian Hellhole was translated into Georgian and published in Georgia.
Alongside writing, I have an academic background in psychology, addiction studies, psychotherapy, psychoanalysis and clinical hypnotherapy. I am also a martial artist and hold a black belt in Kenpo. These different disciplines continually shape my writing—particularly my interest in discipline, altered states, human behaviour, resilience and the ways people confront fear.
I continue to write strange, uncompromising books that combine the grotesque with the philosophical, treating horror not merely as entertainment but as a way of examining the world in which we live.
